I first looked at ProScale but many of their affordable scales has an auto-off after just 30 secs. Then I found this post [home-barista.com] about this scale [dealextreme.com]. A sub $11 digital scale (incl. shipping from HK) with these specs:

2008-07-30: I have gotten and used the scale for some weeks and it works very well and has even survived a drop to the floor.
